Miss Zenly? Here's what's left.

Zenly is gone, but the feeling isn't. Here's what to use now, whether you want an exact friend map or just to know what your friends are up to.

   Bump comes from amo, the company Zenly co-founder Antoine Martin started after Snap closed Zenly, and you can tell. You get a live map of friends with their battery level and how long they've been somewhere, a Scratch Map that fills in everywhere you've been, and a “bump” when you shake phones while hanging out. It also shows what friends are playing on Apple Music or Spotify, has chat, can share your ETA to a friend's Lock Screen, and comes with home screen widgets.    Watch out: Friends see your precise live location, and Ghost Mode works one friend at a time by freezing your pin, so check who can see you.

   If your friends are on Snapchat, a Zenly-style map is already on your phone: open the Map tab and you'll see friends who share with you as their Bitmoji. Location sharing is off until you turn it on. Then you pick all your friends, only certain friends, or Ghost Mode, which can end after three hours, after 24 hours, or stay on until you switch it off. It's the easiest way to get a friend map without asking anyone to download something new.

   Watch out: The friends you pick see your precise location, and the map sits inside a big app full of Stories, Spotlight and ads.

   Find My is the old “Find My Friends” app people still search for; Apple folded it into Find My years ago. It's already on every iPhone. You can share your location with a friend for one hour, until the end of the day, or indefinitely, and see theirs on a simple map in the People tab. There are no feeds, no ads and nothing new to sign up for. For a crew that's all on iPhone, it's the lowest-effort way to see where everyone is.

   Watch out: It doesn't work with friends on Android, and there's no fun layer at all: no status, no reactions, just dots on a map.

   Bobble takes the other half of Zenly: the vibe. You and your friends become 3D bobblehead figures made from a selfie. On iPhone your crew lives in the Dynamic Island and on the Lock Screen; on Android, in an always-on notification. An auto status (home, gym, party, coffee, asleep and more) changes your Bobble's outfit, or you set it in one tap, or go ghost. Friends see your status, never where you are. When you hang out, your Bobbles huddle head to head. It's coming soon, and you can make your bobblehead now.

   Watch out: It isn't on the App Store or Google Play yet, and since there's no map, it won't help you find a friend in a crowd.

   Google Maps location sharing

   Google Maps can share your real-time location with people you choose, for an hour, up to three days, or until you turn it off. It works the same on iPhone and Android, which makes it the easy fix when your group chat is split between the two. On Android, the Find Hub app (the new name for Find My Device) also has a People tab for the same kind of sharing. It's reliable and practical. It just isn't social: no avatars, no reactions, no status.

   Watch out: It shares your precise location through your Google account, so it feels more like a utility than a friend app.

   Life360

   Families who want arrival alerts and driving features

   Life360 is built for families more than friend groups. You join a Circle and get a live map plus alerts when someone arrives at or leaves a place like home or school. Paid tiers add longer location history, crash detection and roadside help. It shows up in a lot of “Zenly replacement” articles, but it's a safety tool first and a social app barely at all. If your parents want to know you got home, this is what they'll ask for; for hanging out with friends, the apps above fit better.

   Watch out: In 2021 The Markup reported Life360 sold precise location data to data brokers; it said in 2022 it would stop, but its App Store label still lists data used for third-party advertising.

   Instagram Map

   Instagram added a map in August 2025, starting in the US. It shows places tagged in posts and Stories, and, if you opt in, the spot where you last used Instagram. You choose who sees it: friends who follow you back, your Close Friends list, people you pick, or no one. It's off unless you turn it on, and parents using teen supervision get notified and can manage it. It makes sense if your crew already lives on Instagram and you only want to share with a few people.

   Watch out: It isn't live tracking like Zenly; your location updates when you open the app, so check the sharing indicator at the top of the map.

   WhatsApp Live Location

   Short, encrypted shares to find each other at a meetup

   Sometimes you don't want an always-on map, just an answer to “where are you?” for twenty minutes. WhatsApp lets you share your live location in any chat for 15 minutes, 1 hour or 8 hours, then it stops by itself, and you can end it early. Live location is end-to-end encrypted, so only the people in that chat can see it. It works across iPhone and Android, and a lot of people already have it installed.

   Watch out: Every share expires, so it can't give you the ambient “who's out right now” feeling Zenly had.

   Part of Zenly's charm was the little signals about friends, and music is a big one. Airbuds connects to Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, Amazon Music and others, and puts what your friends are playing on a home screen widget. You react with emojis, stickers or selfies, chat, and get a weekly listening recap every Sunday. There's a ghost mode for when you want to listen in private. TechCrunch reported 5 million monthly users in September 2025, mostly high school and college students.

   Watch out: Some reviewers say it misses plays or logs Apple Music alarm sounds as songs, which can tell friends more than you meant to.
